About The Team Challenge Tournament
This is a Team Challenge Tournament. You can think of the teams like school sports houses. Each team will have a maximum of 9 competitors. Every event you enter will earn points for your team. If you place in the top 3 places, you will earn more points.
At the end of the competition, the team with the most points will be crowned the champion team.
Introducing The Teams
Tournament Rules
This tournament will operate under draft rules of the 2026 Soke Cup Rules (v 0.1.2). As these rules are still being finalised, there may be some changes before the Soke Cup, but until then we would like to give all athletes who are looking towards the Soke Cup the best chance to prepare under these rules.
The Kumite & Little Chamions Basic Skills events will operate using a knockout style draw. Kata, Team Kata & Kubujutsu events will operate using the score card system.
Kumite (sparring) – head contact & head gear:
- Masters & Adults (18 Yrs +) – Head gear will be worn. Controlled contact will be required to score a point.
- Juniors 14-17 Yrs – Head gear will be worn. Touch contact to the headgear is required to score a point.
- Juniors 10-13 Yrs – Head gear will be worn. Only non-contact techniques in close proximity to the headgear can score a point. Contact that causes injury, a penalty will be awarded.
- Juniors 9 Yrs + Under – No headgear is worn and no techniques targeting the head are allowed. Techniques aimed to the head will be penalised, even if they do not make contact. Points will only be awarded for controlled chudan attacks in these divisions.
Little Chapions Basic Skills Event
In this tournament there will be a special event just for Little Champions (children 4-7 years): Little Champions Basic Skills. Here’s an overview of the event including video examples demonstrating the routines and the competition format.
